New procedure for submitting walks (contributor notes updated 27 July)

We are changing the way we submit walks.

There will not be a specific walk's manager and the programme will in effect be run by the walk leaders and be overseen from within the committee.
We expect the core days for walking to be Wednesday and Sunday but we know that there are several members who would like to lead walks but cannot do Wednesdays or Sundays. We encourage you to offer walks on any days at any time and of any length.
Leaders can start submitting their walks at anytime, the earlier the better. There will be a deadline by which walks must be submitted to appear in the printed programme, but walks submitted after that date will be accepted and they will appear on the Ipswich Ramblers website and also the Ramblers website but not the printed programme.

The submission of walks is a three step process.

Step 1- Select a date

The calendar below displays all the dates booked so far. Check the calendar, and choose a free slot. Try to avoid offering a walk in an area already covered in the same week. To have your date entered in the this public calendar your date must be registered.

Step 2 - Register your walk date

Do not delay registering your walk if you do not have all these details because another leader may also want that date. If you only want to book a date and have no other details, that’s fine. You can send the full details in Step 3. If you have no access to email, just phone one of the coordinators - see below - who will register it straight away.

Step 3 - Submit details of your walk

Once a walk is registered, please submit full details as soon as possible.

Ideally, we would like walk leaders to enter their own walks into the Group Walk and Events Manager (GWEM) on the Ramblers website. This is the database hosted by Ramblers which supplies the data for the printed programme and all the tables, lists, etc on our own website.

To do this, you must first register on the Ramblers website and send a request to be a Contributor to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. Please include your Ramblers membership number.

Once you are a contributor, these notes (updated 1 August) will guide you through the process of adding a walk. Further information is in the Getting Started for Contributors Manual and comprehensive guides on The Ramblers website. Please remember that the coordinators will give you all the help you need to add a walk.

If you cannot face putting your own walks in, please send details in an email message to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or attach a completed spreadsheet which we used for the last programme. If you do not have an email address then phone one of the coordinators.

This will ensure that the message is acted upon during holiday periods. We have had reports that the calendar will not display when using MS Edge as a browser. Until this is fixed, please use an alternative browser or phone one of the coordinators for a free date. Many apologies for this.

 The calendar below contains an entry for every new walk registered so far. When you register a walk as defined above, the co-ordinators will update the calendar below as soon as possible.
