MEMBERSHIP

Central Office of the Ramblers, having updated and reviewed their new computerised membership programme, have advised us that Group membership has held steady throughout the year, hovering between 500 and 520 and not the 600 they used to tell us we had!

WALKS PROGRAMME

Once again we have had a varied selection of walks within a 30 mile radius of Ipswich.  There were 118 walks, ranging from 3 to 13 miles and hopefully all members found some that suited their needs.  Grateful thanks are extended to all those who lead walks and also to those who support them, regardless of the weather.

SOCIAL EVENTS

It is always pleasing to see good support for the Soup Lunch walks.  This year we had one at Melton in the spring and one in the autumn at Kirton. A number of our members also joined the villagers of Shotley at their Soup Lunch after one of our walks. Sincere thanks to those members who did the organisation and provided the excellent fare.

GROUP CONSTITUTION

The new Constitution was accepted unanimously by members attending last year’s AGM. It was subsequently ratified by the Area Council.

GENERAL

We talked last year about the need for a financial strategy within our Group as a result of the overall financial position of the Ramblers.  You will hear this evening how your committee has successfully dealt with this matter.  We were putting in place our own Austerity Budget before the Coalition Government even thought of it.

It is also pleasing to report that Central Council, having had a big shake up as reported last year, have now set a positive budget and have re-organised themselves into a more effective management.

The Chairman of the Trustees will be the guest speaker at the Area AGM on 5th February 2011 at Moulton village hall, near Newmarket. This will be our opportunity to hear first hand how the future is being planned for the Ramblers.
